Black & Brown

Black & Brown

Words: Andrew Krell

Silicon Valley isn't the first place that comes to mind when it comes to style. It’s great when the Bay gets a nod of approval from the fashion police, but let’s face it: that stuff is rare. As a kid growing up in the area, my impression of the sartorial scene was a lot of hoodies (practical, given the climate), a sea of tech start-up tees (understandable, since they’re usually free), and dudes and dads wearing white crew cut socks. With cargo shorts. (This last one escapes my understanding.) But obviously times have changed: Steve Job’s uniform of black turtlenecks has been analyzed and idolized, and progressive companies like Everlane have been taking off. I’d say that means more people care about their #ootd’s, wouldn’t you?

So if you’re currently up in the Bay and looking for a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ to break apart from the mainstream fash pack, there’s one spot you have to check out: Black & Brown, a specialty store just minutes out from downtown San Jose. Their selection of vintage finds, contemporary pieces, and designer goods means that there’s something for everyone, from the bro looking to sport some florals or the chick who’s looking for just one more pair of mom jeans. Oh, and did we mention that there’s a bomb rack of denim jackets? You could put together a Jobsian uniform of your own accord. Just top it off with a pair of GLCO, and you’re good to go.
