Mixtape No. 49

DJ Sober x House of Plates

It’s hard to understand the Dallas creative scene without stumbling upon DJ Sober.

The deejay, producer and illustrator has played an influential role on the city’s music scene over the last decade, from launching the influential soirees The Party and Big Bang! to spinning gigs at Cowboys and FC Dallas games. Sober has toured the U.S. with rapper/producer Black Milk, opened for bands such as the Flaming Lips and Cut Copy, deejayed alongside ?uestlove and Pete Rock and his co-produced remix of Erykah Badu’s “On and On” was co-signed by the singer herself. His work has been lauded by The Dallas Observer, with Sober earning the paper’s “Best DJ” trophy 3 years in a row from 2012-2014 and again in 2017.

In short, Sober is a busy dude. Which is why we were so stoked when he agreed to not only play the GLCO opening party at our new store in Dallas, but to release his party mix as our December mixtape. "I've been listening to a lot of house music lately and really wanted to incorporate some of my favorite tunes into this mix. A lot of these tracks give me a Venice vibe, so it's my way of bringing those GL / Cali vibes to Dallas,” Sober shares. “A good number of these songs are vinyl-only releases that I ordered from a SoCal shop that digs deep and gets their hands on obscure records."

Things are looking even brighter for Sober in 2018, with his live talents recently broadcast on New York’s Sway in the Morning on Shade 45/Sirius XM. To round out 2017, Sober played a private party for Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas and is slotted to play The Fader’s day party at Art Basel in Miami. While DJ Sober shares his tunes across party scenes in new cities, GLCO will be jamming to his mixtape in Los Angeles (and Dallas).
