Morro Dos Prazeres, Southern Brazil

Here's a little more from Helen's trip to Brazil..

"Morro dos Prazeres (Mountain of Pleasures) is a favela (slum) in Rio de Janeiro of  Morro de Santa Tereza. This past February it was occupied by a graffiti campaign called "Caminho do Graffiti" that had the intention of coloring the place to attract tourists to the community that has one of the most privileged views of the city. We checked out some of the graffiti but didn't make it to all the paintings, since going to the favelas alone is not a good idea, we ended up leaving afraid of kidnapping. Probably not a great idea to try and attract tourists to this area in general. On our way out by foot we went down the streets in the neighborhood of Santa Tereza known by the historic buildings of the century XIX, and elegant mansions built in the 40's."
