SS17 Optical Styles

Words: Andy Krell

For the Spring/Summer 2017 collection, we expanded our design horizons with a range of new and revamped optical frames in a variety of fresh finishes. Metals were interlaced with Southwestern-inspired design elements, like intricate filigree detailing, earth-toned gradients and muted metallic patinas. Classic favorites were reimagined into metal/acetate combinations, like the Kinney Combo, and whimsical new colors for Wilson and Club House, like Sage Pearl, Rose Gold, and Bone-Blonde.

Clune, our smallest frame with round, tapered eye shapes, has been reintroduced in fresh, light colors, just in time for spring: a custom gray tortoise laminate acetate for men and rosé fade for women.

Howland is a straightforward rectangular optical frame for men. The frame has a sweet spot size with balanced proportions and thicker temples in traditionally popular acetates. It’s an ideal frame for those who crave form and function, without any of the fuss.

Kinney Combo is a classic with a twist. Our bestselling Kinney shape, reimagined into a metal/acetate combo, with a metal bridge, adjustable nose pads, and metal temple inlays in colors inspired by the Southwest, like Bone-Blonde and Matte Pinewood.

Kinney M – The M stands for metal. A smaller optical version of last season’s popular sun style, made from ultra thin powdercoated stainless steel and embellished with inlay detailing and mineral-inspired acetate temple tips. The style’s light metal build is complemented by desert spring colors like Chrome, Brushed Gold and Powder Beige. Kinney M will be available in April, right as we're trading in our winterwear for fresher, lighter styles.

Linnie is a smaller rounded aviator optical style with reverse Windsor rims, coin edge filigree, and combination metal/acetate temples in complementary tones. We’re putting our money down on Linnie as the sleeper hit of SS17.

Valdese is our latest collab with menswear designer Mark McNairy. We’re stoked about our first flip clip frame (!!!), with titanium nose pads and lightning bolt plaques.

Wilson, a reboot of our popular frame (because y’all can’t get enough Wilson), features a stainless steel frame with authentic windsor rims and cured cellulose acetate temples. This spring it’s offered in a variety of new whimsical colors, like Sage and Ballet Pearl.

Winward, a smaller style with a classic P3 oval shape and tailored fit, has been re-released as a larger size in variety of matte and tortoise acetates. It’s a classic frame in classic colors for those non-extra folk. And there’s a clip too, that comes in golds and dope mirrored lenses.
