Originally named Little Coogee, Sydney’s little secret cove is nestled in between two of Australia’s most famous beaches, Bondi and Coogee. Because of the shape of the headlands surrounding it, the often wild Pacific Ocean is put to sleep in this area, bringing in much of the local marine life and human life who are looking for a little peace and quiet.
During the Great Depression in the early 1900’s the local council whipped up a scheme to keep unemployed men employed, and got a mob building concrete foreshores in an attempt to make access to the bay easier, an olympic sized pool, and scenic road over the entrance. Wild storms in the late 1930’s put their plans in the dirt, and they only managed to finish the foreshore…Thanks to mother nature and the limited access, Clovelly never got the attention the council hoped for, and remains one of Sydney’s secret getaways. Without the flocking tourists and blood sucking businesses hawking for dollars, Clovelly still holds onto its natural beauty in the middle of a hustling bustling city.
